Looking for black std laced wheel for touring bike
Looking to replace 04 RK cast front wheel with a regular laced wheel (no twisted/fat/80 spokes - just a normal one), but in black. Checked moco accy catalog online and nothing there (I thought at one time they sold these).
Options:
- surf ebay (nada - at least not today)
- buy a used chrome laced wheel and have it powder coated
- find a wheel builder and have it built
- check aftermarket catalogs and buy one
As I don't have much dough, finding a used one would be perfect, but don't appear to be many out there. What about getting a used chrome one and having it painted/powder coated? Anyone know how doable that would be?
Thanks for any tips.

OK - so I found a great deal on an HD chromed laced wheel off an 03 RK. Looking at rattle canning it with semi matte black paint. But first need to do some prep work on the chrome so the paint will stick. I've read various thoughts on this - sanding, media blasting, and etching primer all have come up. Don't want to disassemble the wheel - just want to paint it. Don't mind if paint around spoke nipples cracks a bit - makes it look more vintage.
Anyone done this and liked the result? What approach did you use?
Thanks.

Just take a scoth brite pad, the gray scrubber pads and wipe the whole thing down with it. If you go to a automotive paint distributor they should be able to sell you a spray bomb cam of adhesion promoter. Spray it on shoot your primer and shoot the paint. Should work like a champ. Good luck.

Rattle paint or any other isnt going to hold up on something that takes a beating like your wheels. Powdercoating is the only way to go.Get a hold of a company in so. cal. called Black Bike. They sell an awsome 60 spoke at a reasonable price.Do not do business with a company called Wheel Works. Bought a set of wheels from them and you could peel the coating off with your fingernail.good Luck
