Default '07 SE RK Road Winders under 06 SG

I have started this project and felt I should let everyone know what kind of work is involved to make this work.

Details, 17x4.5 rim with 160/70-17 Metzeler Rear

First mounted new tires

Little help with some windex...what a workout!

Update

Front wheel is on the bike, waiting on rotors.

Rear wheel did not center itself with stock spacers. Hub is wider then stock as well.

Took the pulley side spacer and removed .1875 (3/16") to center the tire in the fender.

Pulley will have .180 removed from the back to put it back to the stock position and will clear a 160 tire by about .200. Right now it is rubbing on the frame and ran out of pulley on the transmittion.

The rotor side will be getting a new spacer. Looks like it will be going from a 1/2 wide spacer down to about 1/8"-1/4".
The rim will be getting the tire removed, then headed to the cnc for some modifications. Since the hub is wider then stock it will need to be machined to get the rotor to align with the caliper. Too make this happen I will be machining .375 from the face of the hub.

Looks like there is about .125 tire clearance each side without modification to the fender. Man is it a tight fit.

Just dropped the wheel of to my good friend. He is going to be putting it on a radius mill with vertical axes..cnc mill, indicate the rim from the opposite side of the hub and remove .375 from the rotor side, possibly move the bearing back when done. Which I am very glad I dont have to take the tire off for this project! We also are taking .1875 from the back of the pulley to get it centered back on the drive pulley.

The machine is tied up with production parts, so you might not hear from me for about a week. I will be taking pictures of the milling when the time comes.

Please keep your eye out for updates. Brent

update....Wheel is getting turned down. Removing the 3/8" as mentioned before. The pulley is also done.

I did have to put in wider wheel spacer in the front, forgot to mention that.

I am turning down some stainless stock to match the stock spacer so I can make whatever spacer I need for the rear to get this dialed in.

Wheels are on. Rear tire went through all the machining. Wasn't able to get pictures, but here are some finished pictures of the bike.

The rear wheel works well, I had to modify the rear break housing spacers to align the rotor to get the breaks too work perfectly. Must have mis calculated something by .125. But all is good and have 250 miles on it already.

Nice work and it looks good.

And I'm grumpy because I had to machine a GMA caliper to fit the front of an '80 FLH.

Looks good. I really like the Road Winder wheels. I'm putting one up front on my Deuce with front and rear RW floating rotors. If I spot a deal on a RW pulley that goes on too.

Thanks.

Note, when putting in the back wheel, make sure it goes in tight. If its loose fitting, side play...I am talking just a little then tighten it all up (pulling the frame in) it will not stay tight. Worked the nut loose within 100 miles.

Ended up needing a little wider spacer to fix the problem.
