Default Car Tire on an Ultra

I was wondering if anyone here has or does run a car tire on the rear of an Ultra? Some people I know run them on other brands of bikes and like them because the tires cost less and last about 3 to 4 times longer. If you do run a C/T what size and brand.

Thanks, Whiz kid

I'm sure it's done. Back in the chopper days it was common practice. Keep in mind generally the traction is not there compared to the softer mc tire compounds. Consider the whole thing as experimental. While some will perform reasonably well, some will out and out suck and be dangerous. It would take some serious searching or find somebody that's done all the leg work and found a good working car tire before I would just slap any brand on there. should have plenty of facts on it.

Car tires are designed to run with the tread flat on the ground and woud get downright dangerous witht only the edge on the ground in a turn. I would stick with a motorcycle tire. Besides, your never going to find a car tire anywhere near the size and width our bikes run. Don't be cheap when I comes to tires. It could cost you your life.

I cannot think of anything more unwise (trying not to be rude!). Please don't try it.

Here in the UK the apparent fixation of some US riders on high tyre mileage is a surprise. We want the d*mn things to stick to the road and look for grip and handling first, mileage next. Try some Avon Venoms for high ride quality and good tyre life. They would be a far wiser way of spending your money - and saving your neck.

If I was that strapped for cash I would put a on set of cheap Kung-Fu tires like Cheng Shin or Maxxis before I would ever think about using a car tire. A car tire might look cool on a old school rigid bobber that never gets any miles put on it, but an Ultra....No way.
