Mixing Dunlop E3 21" on the front
I have an '07 FXSTC which originally came with a D205 200mm on the rear and a D402F Mh90-21 on the front. That D205 was scary in the rain at the end of it's life so I switched it out for the new D401 200mm off the crossbones. I figured the siping and a tread running across the middle of the tire might help. So far so good. Now I need a front tire 2500 mi. later (8500 mi total) and I'm not crazy about the way the D402F follows every groove in the road, the poor ride, the poor traction etc. I called Dunlop and asked if I could put the 90/90-21 Elite 3 on the front and they gave me the BS answer right off the cue card. "We don't recommend using those two tires together on that bike." Gee thanks.
Has anyone tried the E3 on the front of a skinny tire softail? I think this may be more critical on this bike than on a dresser or even a Fatboy, because the Night Train, Standard, and Custom all have the big 200mm radial out back and a bias ply bicycle tire on front.
I'm tempted to try but I don't want to kill myself and my wife doing it.
