Default Wheel Bearings?

Hi,
I had the HD dealer take off my tires and bearings so I could ship out my rims and get them chromed. I was wondering if it was true that whenever you remove the bearings you should put new ones in. Harley gave me the old bearings back and they dont look messed up at all, but they said they highly recommend getting new ones any time they are removed. They want $130 for new ones and didnt want to pay this if I dont have to. Thanks

Jason

Ask the people plating your wheels if they can install new bearings. They will be cheaper if they offer it.

It's likely suggested to replace them due to some shock they experience in the removal process. It's your call though. You can spin 'em in your hands and not feel any roughness but who knows what would happen when loaded. You could always try reuse them but you may end up paying for them (and the removal fee) in the future anyway. If it were me I'd replace 'em.

Replace them. Find them cheaper some where else. I know it is not the same but I just did mine on my YZ250 and the bearing & covers were $10.

They most likly used a bearing puller. I can't amagen the force it takes to get them out that they would still be 100%

better safe then sorry

The HD shop usually uses a tool like a Jims but who knows what some techs are capable of. Great 1" bearings cost around $12/each. That is what I put in my carbon fiber wheels

Play it safe and have the peace of mind: get new ones in.
