Default Fatboy rear axle

Can I put the rear axle in from the left side instead of the right, so that I don't have to remove the mufflers next time? It's a 2001 Fatboy.

Nope, it's turned that way for a reason. It is possible for the axle to turn and spin the nut off when inserted backwards. Not a good idea safety wise. Thats why the Motor Co. installed it the way they did in the first place.

I've run mine like that for the last 5 years...no problems. Just be sure the cotter pin is inserted through the nut and loosen the axle nut into the cotter. This way the nut can't work its way loose to allow the cotter to fall out should you not bent the cotter.

It's ok to do that. The MOCO installs the rear axle on late model touring bikes from the left side.
