Wheel bearings

Wheel bearings
So, I have a 2016 ultra with 3300 miles. I have a noise coming from the front end. I take it to the HD dealership. They tell me the the front wheel bearing is no good and leaking and need to be replaced (under warranty) Also, might as well replace the rear at the same time WTF. Anyone else have this problem? Is Harley using cheap part to keep the pricing low?? It is running much better and steering great.

Count me as one that doesnt care for sealed ball bearings in wheels. First off, they arent serviceable in any meaningful way, and secondly have only a minimal ability to absorb thrust loads. both of these together combine on a heavy bike to equal frequent failure. Back in the day when the bikes had tapered roller bearings, there was no speak of bearing failures, mostly because a tapered roller addresses both of the concerns with the ball bearings in that you can grease them easily, and being tapered, they can absorb a thrust load as well as radial loads.

A good quality sealed bearing, properly installed, will last a long time. I think that when HD started using them, it may have been a combination of poor bearings and poor installation.
Japanese motorcycles have been using sealed bearings with great success since the beginning.
But even so... I`m an old fart and I wish my `16 Road King had Timkens like my `89 Softail...

Probably can now add "Wheel Bearing" Threads to the column that includes Oil Threads ... if it hasn't been already
Always the "Same **** Again"
EDIT: Damn, I just realized I wasn't in the "Touring" Section (Realized after noticing low number of responses... Topic is very prevalent in the Touring )
