Default New to tires

I've purchased an 02 EGS and it is going to need some tires. Figured I would just look at the sizing and get some prices, nope!!! The rear tire doesn't seem to have an actual size (I think). I know it's a Dunlop E3, there are some random numbers but nothing that brings much up online, sooooo, I need help understanding. The numbers I've found are M79M and 40 79 95. The other reason I'm asking is I think the rear tire is oversized, it's rubbed down from hitting the belt it seems. Just looking for info on what I have and what I need. Looked at other threads and found that I could run a 140mm possibly a 150 with a spacer. Would like to know which I have now so I don't get one that rubs in the future. Thanks in advance!!!

The Standard size would be a MT90B16 (MT90=130/90).

Any way that M79M is MT9_ ?

I think a 140 is close depending on tire brand (with your 1.5" belt), but some still run a pulley spacer.

A 150?...hmm...maybe, but that would have to have a spacer

I think you can use a MU85b16 or MU90B16... the Elite III bias is a very good tire for these years..
There should be another number on that tire.

btw, MU=140 (MU85 or MU90)

Seems odd not to find a size, keep looking

Take pic(s) to include both sides of whole tire

Don't worry you will learn quickly. About every 5-10k depending on how you ride.

Ok, finally found it!!! Thank you for the help. Now, the other side is definitely rubbing the belt. Rubbed off the raised lettering completely. Is this bad to get another tire the same size? Is a 130 that much smaller? Should I be keeping an eye on my belt?

A 130 is the original size and thinner than MU90, but it would have been stated as MT90B16 (MT=130)

You can back to a 130 or get a pulley spacer and run a 140 / MU85 / MU90

If you want to make an effort contacting Tire manufacturers, you may find a thinner 140 than what you have and keep using w/o a spacer.

Is it hitting the belt or the guard? If the guard then trim it.
