Default Rear pulley bolts and loctite

Anyone ever had this issue? Riding the other day and heard a loud grinding noise. All the bolts backed out and one even broke off. I was told to put them back in with blue loctite. The old ones looked like they had something on them but wasn’t blue?

Other suggestions?

My 2006 service manual sez to use red loctite on them. My sprocket bolts also had something on the, when removed, but wasn't red loctite. IMHO, those bolts should be replaced when removed,

Same thing happened to me on the 06 WG, they NEED to be replaced every time they are removed. Once they are torqued, they cannot be re-torqued without fracturing the bolts.

Also, some have mentioned avoiding the chrome plated bolts, as they are weaker structurally than the standard bolts.

New bolts come with a thread locking compound pre-applied by the manufacturer, which isn't blue. They are not multiple use and the best advice is to buy yourself a fresh set. Genuine ones are about a dollar each.

There is nothing wrong withe the chrome ones from Gardner Wescott, they are the same grade as the factory bolts. Be sure to chase the threads in the wheel before installing the new bolts. Blue loctite will be sufficient, but if you want to use red go ahead...they will just be hell getting out. Use a torque wrench!
