Default Tire repair

Ok so 2 months ago put brand new Michelin tire on my 89 soft tail custom

I have about 400-500 miles on them Great tires love the soft compound and how they feel on the road
Anyways get to the Harley dealer today (just to stop one look)
Friend points out a drywall screw right in the middle of the rear tire
Ask the service writer to take a look and see about patching it
Says no way we dont patch tires
Ok do you have the tire in stock he checks and it isn’t
So I ask when and her says 5 days
I ask how much he says 360 installed
Anyways my question
Why can’t you plug a rear motorcycle tire?
Anyone have any Thoughts?

They can be repaired, but
You should definitely dismount the tire and patch it from the inside to make sure it is done right. I would not trust a plug inserted from the outside for more than just getting you to a shop.

There patch plugs. First they drill the hole if needed. Then the sand it. The patch goes over the hole on the inside. The patch has a nub in the middle of it which goes through the hole. Like a plug. So it patches the hole and plugs it at the same time from the inside

It's not steel belt, so it's a simple matter to patch it on the inside. However, there is only one tire on the rear.? HA. Over the years, I have had one tire on a car leak from a plug and none from a patch out of probably 10 repairs in a lifetime. Know Dunlop OK's it as long as you do not exceed 45 I think. Go on the Michelin site and read what they say. Time they pull it off, patch and rebalance it, my dealer would be cheaper to get a new tire. Not sure if he patches. I personally would not plug it or patch it. Know that sucks but I haven't a clue what to do at 65 mph with a flat tire and sure do not want to practice. I know the lopps are so stiff wall and stuck on, not even sure you would notice it was flat till something bad happened at 65.

I have Michelin and like you like them. They are less harsh compared to the 3 sets of Lopps and have more grip than one set of Metzelers I have had on bike.
