Replace tube, tire or both

Replace tube, tire or both
2010 Heritage with new 2K miles on tires. Just picked up a nail in my rear tire. The nail is small and right in the center of the tire. Is there an reason why I would have to spend the extra $280 on a new tire versus just replacing the tube and rim seal?
The dealers are telling me to replace the tire too, but I think they just want more money.

If your bike uses tubes I cannot see any benefit to also changing the tyre, just ensure there is no damage on the inside of the tyre that could in turn damage the new tube. In the 'good old days' when all tyres had tubes I've ridden big mileages on tyres that have had more than one puncture and tubes that have been patched!
