Hello from Alabama...
Hey, everyone. I'm new to the forum and wanted to introduce myself. First off, I'm not a HD owner...yet, but I'm certainly in the market. I'm 40 years old, rode a little on friends' bikes when I was a kid, and finally bought a bike after I had been out of college several years. I've been riding for the last 7 years. I rode a Suzuki SV650S for several years, sold it, bought a GSX-R1000, rode it almost two years and sold it a couple months ago.
I enjoyed the sport bikes...they were good daily riders/commuters, but I never covered more than 200 miles at a time on them. I'm at the point now where I'd like a daily rider that I can use on my 60-mile RT commute and also ride comfortably for 6 hours if I want to head to the beach or NOLA or wherever the heck I want to go. I'm still doing my homework, researching models, weighing pros and cons, but I'm leaning HEAVILY toward a Heritage Softail.
I have lots of questions about the heritage softail, but I'll save them for the appropriate forum. Really just wanted to introduce myself and say that I'm looking forward to picking your brains and maybe hooking up with some folks in my area for a ride.

Welcome from north central AL. Highly recommend you hit up a dealer and do some test rides. Each family of bikes has a very different feel. Only way to know what is best for you is to test them all. Good luck.
