Greetings from Korea! New HD owner...
Name's Paul. Active duty Army, about 3 months away from ETS after 7 years. Currently stationed in South Korea.
I recently inherited a 1998 Springer Softail from my father. I don't believe that it is a Heritage or Custom and honestly I don't know much about it or bikes in any case. So I am going to have plenty of questions.
What I DO know about it is that it has many after market parts. I know my Dad had put some ape hangers on it just before he died which I plan on replacing. He also put a windscreen and a kick start on it in addition to the pipes we put on right after he got it (I was about 16 at the time).
My father bought it new when he was stationed in Korea, spent many happy hours on it and took it with him when he moved to Fort Huachuca AZ. He died suddenly in September leaving everything to his new wife. The estate planners and much of my family wanted to sell the motorcycle but I stepped in and took it (legally!). It is now at a family friends house in their storage area.
In any case, I don't know very much about motorcycles. I had a Korean cruiser and rode it for years in my early 20's in Korea so I -can- ride a motorcycle however I have very little (about 70 miles) experience on something as large as the FXSTS. I understand that it is not an optimal bike for a novice rider but I intend on riding the bike as much as possible.
I do not have an AZ motorcycle endorsement and I would need to get one. Is there a driving test? What does the test consist of?
Is there anything I need to know about the bike that pertains specifically to that year/model?

Welcome to the Forums from Central IL, Thank you for your service
Best thing for you to do when you get back would be to do a MSF course. I did the Intermediate one myself, was 1 day on a Saturday, and here in IL if you pass the class you can just walk into the DMV and get your endorsement, you do not have to do any testing at the DMV.
