Hey guys the names Brandon but my friends call me BB or BigBuddha.
Well Its time I join the forums and say hey.
Im new to riding "sort of". Around 7 years ago I had a crotch rocket I had bought on a whim with some buddies to learn to ride. It was a GSXr 750. I have fun on the bike for about a year. Then I moved and I couldnt take it with so I sold it. Now im getting a bit older, dont really want to go fast and furious any more and looking for a fun bike to zip around town. I had always love me some HD sportsters. I went to local HD store and fell inlove w/ the new iron 883. The only issue I had was A. I don't like the look of the old school gaiters on the front. B. The mid controls.
Im thinking B. is a simple solution, buy it with forward controls. (or is this simple enough to install your self if you just buy the kit for forward controls? )
However question for you guys. The gaiters on the front, are they for looks only or do they serve a higher purpose that would break something if removed? Figured I could take the gaiters off the front forks and give them to someone else that might like the look.
Lastly, The guy at the HD dealership local to me is really really pushing the Street bob on me. Im a big guy, 6'1 250 lbs easy. I sat on the Street bob and instantly felt uncomfortable. It made me very nervous. I didn't like that feeling. Almost felt to much. I set on the iron and felt @ease and relaxed ready to roll. loved the look and feel. I am worried im to big and will break it. I wanted to see what you guys think?
Anyways I want to make this short and sweet so I will leave it at that.
oh p.s. I cant test drive them yet, I dont have Moto license yet. (I never did on my old bike I just bought it used and rode *stupid I know*) Now im planning on taking riding class @harley, get my updated license and then buy me a bike to ride

Thanks for all the welcome's
Now I gotta get my license and find "the" bike. I am looking at the 1200's now. I really like the look of them.
I dont understand alot of the differences.
example what the XL in xl1200c means. I think I figured out the c stands for custom. 1200 is simple enough but xl not sure what that means. I have seen on local harley site xl1200n and I think "b" but could be wrong. What does the "n" stand for, my guess nightster?

I think you are correct that the n is nightster, b might be base. I really don't know. As for xl, that designates it as a sportster. You got me curious and I just found this :https://www.hdforums.com/forum/gener...stand-for.html
As for your bike, get your listener and then demo and maybe even rent a few to see what you like. Even if you spend a few hundred now renting to really get them out on the road, that's pennies compared to the cost of choosing the wrong bike
