Default Odemeter misreading

Hello all! I just signed up today. I just got my first harley and I am loving it.
Of course there is something wrong with it. GR!

I searched but came up with nothing, I may not have been searching right though, so excuse me if this is answered already. But Im pretty confident this problem is unique.

Its my odometer. its not registering properly. Its increasing way too fast. for example, in about a miles distance, my odometer will put out about 10+ miles. !!!.

When I first got the bike, it had about 5500 miles on it. I didnt realize it until I looked down and I was already on 6000 miles... on the same day! !! No way had I gone that many miles! I dont even think i took it 15 miles. I watched the odo more carefully and watched a mile add up about every second or 2! LOL! i would have to be going... errr.. eh... 3600 miles/hour. !!!!!!!!!!!! i was going about 35-45 mph. So my speedo is working right (atleast it seems).

how the hell do i fix this!? i need some help, im not driving it any more till its fixed, cuz at this rate its depreciating too much!

Ok - I'll bite. Are you watching the tenths of a mile and assuming it's miles?

well, its official, thanks screamin eagle (that is one nasty bite). Im an idiot. stupid almost visible decimal point. lolol. I guess i was just so hyped about riding it, and so worried because I had to put the front end back together.

thanks to all who welcomed me. Ill say a little about myself.

Ive been riding motorcycles for about a year, I still own (and love) my suzuki katana 750. I recently aquired my all new harley, so I sought a forum to be a part of too. I am a member of katriders.com forum for my katana. And for my harley, here! Hope it works out.

My harley has a lot of work to be done on it to give it the bite it once had. It used to belong to my father, and he no longer has a use for it. He actually went crazy and took apart the bike and hid some of the parts around town. I finally got him to tell me where those parts were and I managed to get her back together again. funny story eh?

Riding a harley is definatly a much different experience than a crotch rocket, completely different feel, handling, posture, but somehow it feels dignified, proud, and free to be on a cruiser. Its a 2002? (I really havent looked at the year yet :0! ) sportster 883. A ton of chrome and a lot of custom onlypeices. Theonly thing I havent found yet is the chrome and stuff that went on the very back end of the tail, i currently have the tail light zip tied to the frame. hahah.

Like i said, much work to be done, but shes definatly growlin for me. So much fun.

so, anyway, how bout we just erase this whole embarrassing odometer moment by deleteing my first post and and changing the title to something like. My first Harley! Welcome mE! heheh.
