New guy, back in the saddle in MD
Hey folks, my name is Jim, from Carroll County, Maryland.
Had several bikes back in the '80's and early '90's (I have been informed that you are supposed to call them "metrics" now...wtf?). Riding home one night I got really spooked. Went out a few days later and felt even more spooked, so I stuck a sign on it and sold it. That was about 19 years ago, and I hadn't ridden a bike since.
A couple months ago a buddy of mine called me to come over. I figured he needed some help with his house or his truck or something. He owns an '07 Ultra Classic and an '03 Deuce. He hands me a helmet, points to his Deuce and said, "you're riding that one, lets go".
Well...with a little apprehension, I did. Wow! Man did I miss this.
He told me I could ride his until I get my own (gotta' pay off the camper first). I was blown away. Our wives have been best friends all their lives and the 4 of us have been racking up the miles on his bikes ever since.
I can't believe it took me this long to get on a Harley, it is just a different experience than I remember, and I am head over heels in love with riding again.
Camper is paid off in February, so I'm planning to pull the trigger on a used one this winter. I could do it sooner, but it would be financial suicide. Hoping to get a Road King, but at this point, I don't care what I get as long as I get one. I certainly wouldn't kick a Dyna of some kind out of the bed.
Anyway, looking forward to enjoying the forums.
