New and FIRST EVER H-D

New and FIRST EVER H-D
I picked up a new 2013 Softtail Deluxe 2 weeks ago now. This is my first every Harley-Davidson after riding only Hondas for the part 10 years. So at the age on 34 I thought it was about time. I have to say that it wasn't the price that turned me away from H-D motorcycles, it was the people that I ride with. All ways saying nothing but bad things about the brand. So I decided that instead of just believing them I'd go find out why H-D are the number 1 manufacturer of V-Twin motorcycles in the world yet everyone I knew all ways talked trash about them. I've to say I don't give one rat *** as to why H-D still run pushrods and them still running chain instead of gear driven cams. At the end of the day why change something that works.
Of I went to the dealer here in not so sunny Northern Ireland UK and after about 20mins could see why people love them. I got talking to a few other customers and started to ask questions and get answers about H-D and there bikes. I loved every bike in the place, including the sportster 72 that I'd seen on the Web and wanted to go see in real.
I sat on it, looked at it in closer detail and took photo often photo. Then over come the sales man. Now at this point I should say I work in the motor trade and have done for over 15 years so sales people annoy me or so I thought. But I've to say Wilmer (as he told me his name was) seamed very little Interest in trying to get my to sign on the line and more into finding out why the 72 had caught my eye. After talking to him for about 1/2 and 2 cups of coffee later I had to ask about the bike, cost, warranty and the like. Anyhow to cut it short I was only looking so I said thank you for your time and left.
As I've said I only had Hondas so moving away from a brand you know was hard and I thought we'll my budget was there to get most and any bike on the market. So went and looked at victory (felt cheap to me) Suzuki and Kawasaki both didn't have anything that caught me eye and even Ducati's and MV Augusta with there sports style bikes (that I can't ride do to many sporting injuries over the years)
So I thought to myself I did like the H-D 72.
Two weeks later I called up to the H-D shop again with my brother this time (who I must add doesn't have his bike test but loves H-D) and looked at the 72 again. Now I must say that at 17stone 5ft 11 I'm not a small guy. A point my brother said to me after seeing me sitting on the 72. Wilmer (the sales man) all so pointed out that the 72 is a small bike and maybe I'd be suited to one of the big twin bikes as there a lot bigger and would suit me size better. So after asking about a trade in price for me Honda Vt1300 cx Fury that I had, I found out that every H-D in the shop was in my price range. So kid In candy store moment, I looked at and sat on every and any bike in the place (the deluxe wasn't one of them as they didn't have one in) I seen and fell for a white roadking. Then asked for a test ride on one. Lovely bike, nice ride, but a wee bit to heavy for me to push about (sporting injures include 2pins in my left hip) so back to the drawing board. I left the store again getting what I know now was a shop game spanner rating of 8 outa 10 (rating given to time wasters in the store)
1 week later and the 4th time in the shop. I spotted the deluxe (instance love attraction) I went up to Wilmer's desk. Lifted a sign that said sold please don't sit on this bike and placed it on the deluxe to Wilmer's laughter and him shorting across the store "I knew that was for you"
Anyhow long long winder story to say how much I love the bike. I've spent £500 on it to date with engine guards and the like and have over 400miles on it.
My biker "Friends" have yet to come and look at it. But you know what, **** Em
Anyhow I'm so happy and will post a photo or two when I can.
