I will be singing up for a riders course, but have ridden many Harleys over the years thanks to nice friends. But I still consider my self a beginner and a rookie,...

Welcome to the forum. Great bike the low rider, but i may be a little biased. As far as riding with a passenger, give yourself more space for stopping the added weight really changes your stopping distance.
