Just joined the forum so I could get more information that might help me decide which HD to get. I recently retired and my wife and I want to do a lot of day trips; maybe an occasional overnight. Was by a dealer yesterday and the Switchback looked pretty nice. It's definitely at the upper end of my budget. Had a 1000 Sportster back in the mid-1980's and haven't had a bike for awhile.

Any thoughts or suggestions on my new purchase would be welcomed.

Welcome to the forums, I would say go to the dealer and test ride a few that you are interested in and then decide . Good luck on your quest !!

Harley dealers usually host MSF courses, so that would give you a good chance to freshen up on your riding, and perhaps let you know what type of bike you will be comfortable on. Some find out they don't want to jump right onto a big cruiser right away. Plus, they'll probably be very willing to let you test ride a bunch of their bikes.

Welcome aboard from here in AZ! I would go to the dealer and ride, ride, ride. Not sure where you're at, but most of the dealers here are very cool with test rides. It's a LONG way to bike week (April) but that is usually a great place to get time on any bike you want to try.

If you're looking at some trips with the wife, I would have to recommend something in the Ultra line. I'm happy with my SG, but I know if I put more miles on it with the wife, she would be really happy on an Ultra.

Like a previous poster said as well, you should go to one of the dealers and do their course (I know Chesters in Mesa offers a good one). It's on their bikes, and they will probably offer you some sort of a deal if you buy through them.

Semper Fi.
