New rider/Harley owner from New Hampshire
Hello:
I am new to the forum, new to riding, and new to owning a Harley. I purchased a 2007 Sportster low, am 5'1" and am closer to 60 years old than I care to be. I do have a question. A group of riders that I am friends with, that have a ton of riding experience, have told me that I have made a huge mistake in having this Sportster as my first bike because of the high center of gravity. Due to a defective kickstand, I have dumped it twice, slightly injuring myself (thank goodness for a good helmet) and am now a bit scared of it. The kickstand will be fixed soon but I am worried about going around corners in 1st gear and dumping the bike. Can any of you give me some tips/pointers/advice to calm my nerves. I really feel that I can concur this fear, however, all I am hearing is negatives. Thanks to all! Ride Safe!!

Hi, I too am a new rider and new Harley owner. This is my first bike ever in fact I bought it less than a week ago its a sportster as well. Dont feel too bad about dumping I did it several times at low speed the otherday as well got a few choice exhaust burns in the process from others Ive talked to this week I think most people dump a few times at first. I'm gonna sign up for a motorcycle safety course as soon as I can get off work to take it. Since my frustrating first day Ive been spending a little time just sitting on my bike trying to get comfortable with engaging clutch, brake etc. Should have done this before my first ride a bit but I had to get on it. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess, but you probably should find a class as well its supposed to make the learning curve easier. Good luck from one newbie to another........We'll get it, stay safe

First of all welcome from New Mexico. You stated that you are new to riding. Have you taken any riding classes? They are available in most places I think and would probably help your confidence in riding. Good luck.
