Go to every dealership in your area and sit on every bike. I am 5'9" and love my Ducati monster and used early 750,s and 900's are reasonably priced. At 6'1" a sport bike might be a little cramped. Finding a harley on a teenage budget might be hard too but after you check all the new bikes out start checking Craigslist for something you both like and can afford.

Good luck

Welcome to the forum from TN! I would get a sportster and throw some forward controls on it.

Thanks for all the answers! You are all pretty much confirming what I already knew. However, I am not sure what this quote means, would the OP please explain?

Any opinions on the XR1200X? On a first glance, it looks like most of what I am looking for. Fairly sporty, blacked out, and, obviously, a Harley. I would regret giving up the look of the Iron 883, but I am so back and forth between what I prefer that it is hard to come to any sort of conclusion.

Thanks again for all of your support!

Alex

Welcome from North Carolina. Check out Sporty 48 or Street Bob and change the bars.

Welcome from IL
I'd skip the Iron/Nightsters. the midcontrols on the sportys are extremly cramped, but i'm also 6'3". I'd look at prolly a used 883 that has forward controls. If this is sumthin you wanna keep for a while, maybe look Dyna. Love my Super Glide to death, and being as tall as I am, the midcontrols are nice are nice for riding around town, but I threw on a set of highway pegs for cruising.
Good luck!
