Hello, New guy from CA with a big problem
This is what I wrote a dealer here and tell me what you guys would do? After fixing the bike I now have a slight chatter/knock on the top left side of the engine.
I have a 2001 FXDWG and my wife took it to you guys while I was deployed to Iraq to have it serviced. All that was to be done was inspect or or replace the cam tension, a full service with synthetic oils, and replace the inner primary gasket. In order to receive a quote after she dropped the bike off it took over a week and then she called this dealership to receive that quote. It took over a month to repair the bike and she was told by your service manager that it would be fixed in two weeks. I returned from Iraq after being there for seven months doing convoys all I wanted was to come home and go for a ride. I came home to a bike in the shop not repaired. A week after I returned I then could go get my bike after you guys "serviced" it. I drove there and received the bike and attempted to ride home. I got no further than 18 miles away and the bike died. It died 14 times on the way home. As soon as I got to the house I called you guys to tell the service manager what had happened. He then told me he would come out and pick the bike up and repair it at no cost. It took two days to have someone come pick it up. I live on Vandenberg AFB so I had to escort your driver on base. The driver and I went into VAFB visitors center to get a pass. Your company truck had no proof of insurance in the vehicle and had not been registered in two years. I then called back the service manager and told him what I thought about the situation. Two more days passed and then the same driver came back and we could go to my house to load the bike up. When I went to sign the paper so the driver could take the bike, the paper said I was going to get charged to have them inspect the bike. I immediately called the service manager and explained that I shouldn't have to pay since my bike ran just fine before my wife took it there. I was told to put "no cost" on the paperwork and then to sign it. He took it back to your dealer and the service manager told me it was an electrical issue and I would have to pay for the part and the labor would be free and the pick up and drop off would be free. He called me back after being in the shop to coordinate a drop off time. The driver brought the bike back to my house and unloaded it. I have rode the bike maybe 50 to 100 miles since all this has happened. I was on my way to Lompoc from VAFB and I heard a grinding sound coming from the primary. I then rode it back to my house which was only 3/4 of a mile. I removed the inspection cover and inspected to see if the oil was at the correct height. When I removed it there was a very metallic oil that drained out. I then knew something was wrong. I then removed the outer primary cover to inspect further. I then noticed that one of the six clutch bolts had broke off. I then inspected that the correct torque to the bolts had been applied. They were over torqued by 20 pounds. I then noticed that the clutch assembly had some play in it. I inspected the torque on the clutch jam nut and that had been stripped out. I then was not happy and came to write this. I will be coming up to your dealership the first day you are open after the Christmas holiday to have you make this right. If this does not get resolved I will be taking this higher than your dealership. I am NOT a happy customer after paying close to $2,000 to have this bike serviced!

What a mess! I think I'd check with the Better Business Bureau to see what other complains have been made concerning this company....then go check how small claims suits are handled in your state. My guess is that the only satisfaction you'll be getting is with the help of a lawyer.
Hell of a way to treat anybody, let alone a American patriot. .

Yea, they said I would have to bring it in and let them "look" at it to prove they did the damage. I told them no and I was going to buy the parts my self and fix it. This is when I thought the sound was coming from the primary. I have all the bolt that came off my clutch and all of them are stretched a **** load. I fixed the stripped out clutch adjuster bolt/jam nut and replaced all the six clutch bolts and fired it up and still heard the sound. I went and got some doctor ear things for mechanics and I found that the knock was coming from the top left side. They replaced the oil pump and I think it might be a faulty oil pump but im not sure.

Oh and MoCo customer service called me and wanted me to call them back. I just haven't had time with work and all. Also the service manager called me and he sounded kinda pissed that I called MoCo. Oh and for advertising proposes the dealership was Santa Maria H-D, of California!

I have to agree with Montana_Cowboy. File a complaint with the BBB, however if you want any financial reimbursement, help of a lawyer may be required. Hopefully you took photos of all the damage they did and kept the bolts.
