Hi from Australia

I've always had respect and a bit of fondness for folks from Oz since I was in a mixed Aussie/American outfit in Vietnam in 67-68; ever hear of the Emu's? Stood for experimental military unit, a Huey assault helicopter company. The gunships had a good call sign, Taipans, but the slicks (troop carriers) used "emu". You can imagine how that went over with the Aussie crews. Even painted a silhouette of the damned things on the noses. I suspect you'll recognize the irony. I've wanted to get to Australia ever since, but time and money never allowed, in spite of several invitations. Would love to get there before I get too old, and ride a bike across the country, if there are bike rentals and they allow crazy senile Americans to do something like that, sort of a walkabout on wheels. I'm actually planning a trip to a little town just northwest of Perth and if I had the time and money, a trip along the south coast and up into the red heart, then across to Brisbane, would be fantastic. And about 8,000 km, something I'm not sure I could do anymore, but I could always try. I know I'd have to do it without the girl friend, would complicate the visit, leaving her near Perth. But since it's her good friend we'd be visiting there...
