Default New Member... question re: Regulator

Good Day.

I own a few Harleys...but (for what it's worth Department)...I still have a LONG WAY to go re: my knowledge and experience, thus, my reason to join this Forum.

Question: Just recently picked up a 72 XLCH: When charged....she runs great (for about 40 minutes) then starts to "act" up. Can't hold a charge above 11.5 when the lights are on. Ammeter shows a slight fluctuation when I rev her up.

I cleaned the commutator. I've checked the wiring. Possibly Regulator?? If so, did Harley use (stock) Bosch or Delco 12V?

Any thoughts?

Thank you!!

Welcome from Virginia....good luck. Best bet it to find you a good manual, study how it all works and ties together, and with tools and volt/ohm/amp meters should all come together.

Good place to start is with the manual....then read every single thread about your particular bike....which will cause questions then you search for the answers and before you know it, you've got a good handle on what is up with your scoot.....by the way... Welcome to the forum from Arizona!!
