Hi all, I'm a newby here but not to riding Harleys. I've had several Harleys, the last one I had was an FXD I bought new in 2000. Rode that puppy out to Sturgis and beyond, only to have some @$#hole run a red light and we came together. You all know that a pick up doing 60 mph and a bike doing 40 mph is gonna make a mess. Well I survived . Lost my left leg below the knee, broke my thigh bone and my hip got messed up ( all left side). I thought I'd never ride again but after about four years I thought I'd try again. I bought a 2005 Sporty because I needed a lighter bike that I could handle at "foot down speed". That was my bigest problem. I had already modified the shift lever so that all shifts were down rocker style. I can't tell you how happy I am to get back on again. But I am still a little spooked because I'm still trying to get used to the "punching" of the gearshift. I guess at this point I should mention how old I was when the accident happened. I was 62 when that happened and I was 66 when I bought that new Sporty last year. I will always ride no matter what my age. My thoughts are, if you can sit, you can ride.
