Default Riding In Kentucky

Got a small group that is going to head to Kentucky and ride around the state for a few days. We will be entering the state through Louisville. What we are looking for is some advice on roads to hit. We aren't making any reservations, as we don't know where we willl be when. Looking for great 2 lane backroads, heading thru small towns, talk to the locals, eat at only local places (no resturant chains) and staying at local hotels. Thanks for your help.

Welcome from Lexington

I grew up in Louisville I would suggest riding US60 east toward Frankfort. You will go right past where Col Sanders lived and I believe they still have the home cooking restaurant there. It is just outside Shelbyville

Travel on thru Frankfort to Lexington. If you will be going back north, try Paris Pike (exit 113 on I 75). It goes by some nice horse farms and is very rural

If you continue east, US 60 is still a good bet but not much is between Winchester and WV

Going south, try to stay on US 25. Lots of small towns and runs along side I75 to the TN border

Enjoy the hillbilly state!!

Thanks for the road suggestions. We are really looking forward to riding in KY. Heard a lot of good things about the state...both the great roads and the friendly people.

If you feel like running west out of Louisville US 60 is a pretty good route. It ends around Owensboro. Although I can't remember what's between the two cities. Enjoy the ride.

Ride the eastern part of the state for the curviest roads and scenery. Old coal mining towns are kind of run down but the riding is good. Pretty much anything east of Lexington.
