Looking at the Softtail Deluxe. Was told that as a beginner its lower and should give me a good ride, as long as I don't hit the throttle to hard.

Welcome aboard Larry. Same with me ---- didn't start riding til I was 50. The Deluxe will be manageable for you. The day before I started my safety course, my nephew told me to come out & he'd show me how to ride. Put me on his Yamaha Roadstar. Seemed too big & intimidating to start with, but his buddy's Fat Boy was much more manageable. I started small. Maybe too small! Suzuki Intruder 800. Went to a V Star 1100 about 6 weeks later! 6 years later, and I'm riding an EG Classic, and picking up my new Ultra next week. Have fun.
