Welcome from Connecticut! The MSF is a requirement to getting a motorcycle endorsement here in CT. Good idea that you both take the course-together. There are a lot of good used bikes out there-do your homework and you'll get a good one. Ride safe!

I'm just east of Brighton in South Lyon. I see you're from Redford. I lived there for a little over 30 years. I grew up at Negaunee and Puritan in north Redford then moved to south Redford just off of Beech and West Chicago. My brother still lives there over by Western. Still love that town.
