By taking the MSF course you get a discount on your insurance for a start and you might even learn a new thing or 2.
Can't give you any better advice than this. I quit riding in the early 80s and just started again about 6 years ago. The last bike I had back then was a 1946 Indian Chief. Had been riding limey bikes before then. I figured since the Indian was a 1200cc bike, I could just jump on a Harley and take off. No sir. I took the MSF course and learned a lot.
