Best VA rides? Drop a note on this thread! Mountains, beach, country roads?

I need some ideas before it gets too cold!

Welcome to HDF from Arizona...and there are several roads in the western part of the State west of Roanoke that are quite scenic....like going from I 81 from Abbington up to "The Breaks" at Va Ky border then back south on 23 thru Wise , Clintwood..and follow southern and easterly route called the Crooked Road....plus many many more.....good luck...bigal v

Default Gainesville to Luray to Front Royal

Don't know what area you are in, but one really nice ride is from Gainesville take 55 west to just beyond Marshall, then take rt. 647 to 522 south to 211 west (great twisty's going up and down the mountain on 211) to Luray. From there take 340 north to Front Royal to 522 North. Turn right on 340 again, then stay on 340 or pick back roads and pass by Summit Point Raceway on the back roads and follow 340 past Harper's Ferry. Take a sharp right onto 671 to Rt. 9 to Rt 7. Going East on Rt 7 takes you back to Tyson's Corner/Northern VA, or return via the scenic route- Rt. 7 West to Bluemont to south on Snickersville Turnpike (beautiful slow-ride country lane). At the town of Aldie, take 50 east back toward civilization. For me, a round trip from Lorton, VA area, it's about 250 miles round trip.. it's a nice day trip for us touring types, but plenty of twisty's and fast stretches for those who want to air it out... Beautiful countryside and scenery the whole way except returning to town on the eastern end of rt 50..

I'm think almost anywhere west of I-95 is fantastic riding but I'm partial to my own backyard which is very close to Orange county, Va. Skyline drive is another of my favorites from Front Royal down to Rt. 33 then go west to Elkton and north on Rt. 340 back to Front Royal.

I used to ride 17 to 360 to Warsaw to Reedsville to White Stone back to Rt17. Nice scenic, uncrowed rural coastal ride. Also used to go down to Bethel Beach, in Onemo, and there abouts in Mathews County.
