Default Newbie VIN Question

Hello Guys and Gals,
I just inherited a 2001 Harley Davidson from my Father-In-Law. I haven't seen it yet but someone said it was a Springer-Softail. I have tried several Vin number searches (from the title) but can't figure out what it is. I would like to know what the engine type is and the model. The title says RS for the model. Can anyone help?

The Partial VIN is 1HD1BYB161Y######

The BY model I can't locate nor the B motor type. Since I can't pick it up until May (It is being stored right now) I was looking for information on it to satisfy my Curiosity. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the kind words.

Am I not reading the VIN right? The page you sent me to doesn't list the codes contained in my VIN from the title of the bike.

Robb, double check the numbers... I looked at the numbers too, and see what you mean.

5-6 and 7 digits don't seem to correspond.

Those are the numbers from the Title. I found the same thing. The 5th, 6th, and 7th numbers don't seem to match. Guess I will have to wait until May to verify. That is when the guy who is holding it will be back. It did seem to work on Harley Davidson's Maintenance Page. It tells me to check the Springer Bearings (or something like that). So I assume it is a springer softail.

Thanks for the help.

Well I couldn't stand it any longer. I called Harley. The vin I have is correct. It is a 2001 FLSTSI Heritage Springer Softail. 1450CC V Twin 88B. This is one big bike. Thanks for the help everyone. Hope to see you on the road.

Thanks, It is a bad way to get one (I will miss him) but I am happy to take care of it and make sure it gets used.

Understand. I've yet to pickup my next bike (couple months away) but the $ is coming from a similar situation for me. My dad passed away about 2 months ago. He bought me my 1st bike when I was 14 and he's buying my upcoming HD as well (a couple decades later). He'd be happy about it though!
