Default Tires wearing down fast

Hello all, I have question that is probably time old. Anyway I am a new Harley rider and owner of a 2010 HD Fat Boy Lo which has only 1,351 miles on it and I am being told that I will need new tires possily in another 1,500 or less. I have checked the tire tread and my front tire( Dunlop 140/75R17 67V) tread has 5/32 with a tire pressure of 30psi and my rear tire (Dunlop 200/55R17 78V) is at 4/32 with tire pressure at 40psi. I was wondering if this is even possible? I am a solo rider and I do not do any burn outs or hard riding, I actually baby my HD still. My HD is a commuter bike between home and work which is a 70 mile commute both ways and ride about 2 - 4 times a week.

My question is; am I doing anything wrong with riding or air pressure in my tires, or is it normal to possibly have to change a new set of tires with less than 3, miles on them 3,000? Thanks

Welcome , from Raleigh...
Try asking your question in the SOFTAIL section, as they ride similar bikes, and can give you better answers...
I us Dunlop Elite-3 but they are black wall only.... and I ride a heavier bike (FLTR) but I get far better mileage than you report
things like heat cycles, and road condition will take a part in tire life as well. Two up, and/or carrying a load will play a part

I have been averaging around 7000 on the rear and 9000 on the front of my 2008 Fatboy.

Welcome from VA. I have a 2008 fatboy and replaced my first rear tire at 4000 miles and the front at 8000. There is a decal on the left frame tube in front of you forward jug that has the recommended tire pressures. The stock tires on the fatboys don't last long.

Not sure about how similar those tires are to my Road King but If you over inflate a bit you will wear the center of the rear tire out real fast. The guys who changed my last tire recommended 40 psi even though the owners manual says 36. I backed it down to 36 which keeps the tread a little flatter on the road. It does make the tire last longer, going by manufacturer specs. Try that.

Ask your dealer if the tire is part of a service bulletin update.
I was on a road trip last week and had a minor service issue (heal shifter came off).
I was 1000+ miles from home and they took me right in. I was watching through service window and they inspected both tires. He then removed and replaced the front tire. I just assumed they were doing their job and inspecting the bike. I was not going to say anything because it was almost time to replace it anyway. (9000 + Miles) They ask if I wanted it washed and of course I took them up on it. The wife was enjoying the AC and the shopping. When checking out he said all done and we changed your front tire because it had cupping and uneven wear. He then showed me a service bulletin showing the problem. He said I had cupping and uneven wear and just did make it in time. The tire still has to be with in specs of 3/32 I think is what he said. He told me some tires are cupping and wearing with less than 3000 miles. It was a no charge replacement with 9000+ miles on the tire. I asked if it was a recall and he said no I asked why my dealer did not catch it and he declined to comment. Long story short check around with several dealers you may get free replacement, my bike is 2009 ultra.
