Default Preparing for a passenger

Hey all, my name is Rich. I've been riding for 3 years now and am wondering something. When passengers come into the mix, is it necessary to adjust anything for the exta weight?

The only thing I've ever adjusted for riding a passenger is my mindset.

Extra weight requires extra balance, extra body generally moves you up on the bike a little... also I'm also extra careful.

welcome from north carolina. the passenger issue depends on what type of bike you have. If you have air shocks you may need to add some air, but a passenger changes how your bike handles. Take short rides at first to get used to the extra weight and to get your passenger used to riding, then you will be ready to hit the road.

Depending on how much additional weight is on the bike and how fast you're moving, it may take longer to brake to a stop. Your bike may handle differently, and it may take some getting used to.

I put over 1000 miles on the King before I had the confidence to take my wife for a ride. I just really pay more attention to the balance. Welcome to a great Forum from the home of the Indy 500. It's a great place to read, learn and post!

Welcome from Omaha, NE...for touring bikes - need to add air & other bike classes - you can adjust rear shocks for added weight.

Otherwise, just tell the new rider to feel the bike, lean when you lean (not too much) & enjoy!
