Thanks for all the answers so far. For a new bike (Harley), the only thing I can afford is in the sportster price range at this time. (10-12k)

For a used bike, I would probably be reluctant to spend that much. Just need to find the right bike, right price, and right match for my skills and likes.

The upside of the Honda Shadow is obviously price and I like the way they look. The 2009 model pictured here is $4923 locally. I could pay for that outright, no note to carry.


I really want to be in the Harley 'family' but I'm wondering if the best choice for me as a novice would be to spend a few years with a bike this like, save some money, make sure I enjoy it, and get my seat experience before throwing down more $$ for a Softtail Deluxe (my fav Harley).
