Default hello from orange county, ny

Whats up guys/gals, I just joined today. I don't own a Harley (or any bike for that matter currently), but have been looking at a new Sportster.

While I have your attention...I need some purchase advice. The closest dealer to me (O'tooles in wurtsboro) was very friendly and helpful but won't budge on the price of a new Iron (7999 plus 500 freight/setup). I was wondering if other had a similar experience due to the bike's popularity and if its worth paying the premium to get it from a good dealer.

Welcome from Bristol, England.

Living where I do, I cant comment on dealers and price over there. It would be very unusual for a dealership over here to do any deal whatsoever on the price of a new bike. But shop around as others have suggested.

You say you dont have any bike, but dont say if you've any prior experience of riding. If not, I strongly recommend you take a training course over there before buying. I believe the courses over there are run by MSF.

A lot of people go for a Sportster first, probably because its one of the cheaper and smaller models. I did exactly the same and have an XL1200C, which I love. However, dont rule out the other models.

Try and get a test ride of the Sportster, but if possible, try and also get a test ride of perhaps one of the Dyna range such as the Street Bob. The weight is lower on the Dynas than the Sportsters and in many ways theyre actually easier to ride.

Good luck finding the bike thats right for you.
