A little bit of help identifying year of softail
Hi. my name is Luis and I'm from California. I bought a Softail Standard last May, my first motorcycle form a guy in a city about 1 hr away. He had told me that it was a 2002 Softail Standard but that the title was Special Construction (2007) due to he changing the cases (Delkron) and Transmission (6 Speed Andrews). Something about maching numbers or something. Well, I decided to get spare keys to the bike at the local HD dealership, and it turns out the ignition is that of a 1991 Softail. Then my wife bought me some accessories that were for a 2002, but they didn't match. Now Im trying to extend the forward controls and replace the seat, but I have no idea what year the frame may actually be. Is there any way I can identify the year or era so that I can actually shop online and not worry about having to return item(s) due to wrong application? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
LuisV
Thanks,
LuisV

Welcome to the Forum, Sounds like you need to run the VIN. 84-99 Softails had Evo motors, 00-current run Twin Cam motors, what have you got? Post some pictures over in the Softail Forum and we will sort it out!

Seems like U didn't get what U thought U bought.. Maybe U should have had her checked out, at least to see what it is.
I've read a special construction title means its a bike made from parts of different bikes.
So who knows what they used to put it together......I'd hate to try to what yr the parts are what on but there are some who could help just by looking at it.
Also supposed to be a record of each part with they titled it. If U can get a copy of that it would prob help....
Good luck on that one......
