tires - difference between sport touring and cruiser
Its time for new tires and have been looking around at various tire manufacturer web sites and was wondering what is the difference between a tire made for a cruiser/harley versus a tire that is for a sport tourer? I have seen a few tires that I might be interested in buying but they are listed for a sport touring bike. Example is the Michelin Pilot Road 2 and the Metzeler Roadtec Z6 Interact.
Does it matter or does it come down to weight limitations?
Thanks

Hi and welcome. It comes down to the strength of the sidewalls. As Harleys aren't the lightest bikes in the world I'd check it out with your tyre, sorry tire dealer.

Tires are rated for there use...rated load weight, flex, rubber compound, tread pattern. etc.
Normally sport tires will grip a little better but wear out faster.
If U find a sport tire that will fit Ur rim size U can use it, just have to change them more often .
I would also change both front and rear so they match. Also make sure they are load rated for Ur total weight.
Any time U change the tires to different brands, style, or size they will feel and handle different. Best to research Urself and learn all U can before changing..

1) weight.... yup, an 800-1000 pound bike will EAT tires meant for 500 pound bikes
2) sidewall construction (see #1 above)
3) tread compound (see # 1 above)
you can mount any tire that fits your rim, both in diameter, and rim width.... but you may go throught them fast.... and if you overload the tire.... you'll likely blow it out.
