New member in need of suggestions
New member from the Houston Texas region. I do not currently have a Harley but I intend to get one in the future. I currently ride a Buell XB12S and have always owned standard bikes. Started with a Yamaha Seca II, Suzuki Bandit 1200 then on to the Buell. I'm looking for suggestions on which Harley I should get seeing that I am a sport bike kind of guy. I want to keep to Buell in financially possible. What I need that the Buell can not give me is caring capacity. Being another person or gear/personal stuff/groceries/etc. Sort of hard to carry a gallon of milk and a loaf of bread in the tank bag on the Buell with out crushing the bread and forget about eggs on the same trip. Also it is hard to carry anyone else on the Buell, cops tend to frown on you when you strap a car seat to the back of the bike . And my son doesn’t like being shoved into the tank bag [8D] .I have thought about the Sportster, Dyna and the V-Rod family. All can be equipped with saddle bags and a detachable wind screen. I see that the Sportster has mid mount pegs but I can not tell on the Dyna. The street rod is mid mounted. For those of you who had sports bikes how was the Harleys ridding position? The Buell is fairly radical in the ridding position. The Buell doses not have too much comfort past 100 miles (may be not even that far). Do you get tired after ridding with your legs out in front after many miles? The V-rod to me looks too cluttered in the engine compartment. I like the clean lines of the Twin Cam 88 engine. I'm an average size guy (5'9" 185lb) so I don't want something huge. My main concern would be the comfort factor with the ridding position. Sorry to have rambled on but just looking for some advice.

Welcome to the HD Forum from Colorado. I'm certain by now that you've visited the local HD Dealer? Rent one or two of the models that you think will work for you and then decide. Read often the Softail/V-Rod/Bagger sections.

Welcome from Tennessee.
I am 5' 8" tall and know what you are talking about.
I bought an '06 Dyna Low Rider and dearly love it. I put on saddle bags, touring windwhield, touring seat, sissy bar and luggage rack. And I am still picking out chrome pieces.
I got the mid control model. I sat on a Low Rider with forward controls and decided that riding like that would not be comfortable. I do have highway pegs so I can stretch out if I want. I can ride the distance the tank carries me without looking for a pillow. The touring seat is great.
The saddle bags are large. They are not as big as the touring bags but they work for me. I can put a fridge 12 pack of Pepsi in one with room for canned goods.
There are touring bags that strap to the sissy bar for trips. Some of them dang near as large as my old duffel bag.
As for performance the Dyna line is no slouch. Very strong pull, 100+.
Find yourself a dealer and sit on everything. Yea everything. Then pick the two that you really like and rent them for a day. Tell the dealer you are going to buy and renting will help you decide. They might cut you a deal.
