don't buy a bike until after you have taken the class!! make sure it something you enjoy!

As far as getting the Sporty... I had a 883 for several years... great little bike for running around town.. easy to ride... but it is on the small side....
I'm 6'3" 260 lbs...
I hate to say this... but you can probably buy a used import (750 or 1100) cruiser cheep... keep it for a season... and decide if riding is for you... plus if you drop it (you will) it will not hurt as much!!!
then when you decide you like to ride... sell it an buy a real bike (HD)...

I agree with what others have said. A bigger bike would serve you better.

Check out nothing smaller than a Road King. If you can ride a bicycle you can ride a Road King. Don't wast your time and money on something you are going to outgrow. Just my opinion.

I would not get the 883, it's too small for you and you will regret it once you have it.

I bought a Softail Custom shortly after getting my licence and while it is a big bike, it really is user friendly and easy to ride...you deffo won't have a problem with a bigger model.

The only thing I did was change the mini ape hanger bars for street slammers which gave me a better seating position and hence better control.

Take the course... and then Test ride a couple different bikes.. If you like a certain one.. see about Renting it for the weekend..and put a few miles on it...and then you will know what you like & can handle. Good luck in your hunt...and just remember....you can allways move up.
