I have read (but cant guarantee the accuracy) that most Harleys purchased by female riders are from the Dyna range and that a number of them have tried the Sportster but found the higher centre of gravity difficult to handle. I just throw that in for you to consider before doing something drastic.

Have you tried doing the riders course? It might help build your confidence on your bike.
