Welcome from Los Angeles. I say ride it for a while and figure out the mods you would want that would make you more comfortable on the bike while looking cool. The Iron 883 is a sweet ride stock. I don't think there is too much you would have to do to it. Have your wife/girlfriend/mom buy you a bell to trap all of those pesky road demons! Later.

I say get used to it first before you take it out on the main roads. Ride it around your neighborhood first. I recomed the MSF rider course. Have fun and enjoy your new bike. The IRON is a great looking sporty.

You have the basics, but take it easy on the road the first couple of weeks. Get to know your bike. Biggest advice is to "always" be defensive and "always" assume the worst out of the other driver. That little book the bmv gives you for the motorcycle test is invaluable, read it! I am an experienced rider and pick that little book up every season just to freshen up. Enjoy yourself!
