Noob Intro and a Question
Hi, just joined. Dave G from Anoka, Minnesnowta
Happy to have found this site.
Now for the problem I'm trying to figure outBike is an 'o3 Heritage Springer)
I made the mistake of letting my battery run down and trying to start the bike. No luck, so I figured I'll just recharge the battery. Put the fresh battery in place, and still no start. What I did notice was a series of light flashes from the ignition "on" dash light. I also noted that the fuel pump did not make its customary start-up noise when the ignition switch was turned to "on". Also, the headlight and tailight do not work.
Starter and ignition circuits seem fine...the bike will start and run for a couple of seconds on starter fluid, but it is obviously not getting fuel.
I believe I accidentally activated some sort of code in the ECM which cuts power to the fuel pump (anti-theft circuit, maybe?)
I picked up some info from another site about using a jumper wire to take the ECM out of the loop in order to get the bike to a dealer and a gizmo they call a "scanalyzer" to replace the code(s), but not too sure about this...I'd hate to fry the ECM or damage something else.
The closest post to my problem I've found was last April, where someone found that the fuel pump did not work after replacing the bars with aftermarket set. I checked all fuses I know about...did not remove the "accessory relay" as it is a really tight fit and I am afraid of damage by pulling on it. I'm sort of surprised that if a lost code is the problem, that it was not restored when I used the key to restart after charging the battery, but maybe that's the way it is designed. I did not have the key with me when I attempted to start when the battery was low.
Anyhow...ideas appreciated. Also did not mean to write a book here.
Dave

I have the same bike, and it sounds to me like it's an issue with the alarm (if you have one) Check the owners manual on how to reset it. Good luck, I hope that solves your problem.
