22 years of riding ... new to Harleys! I'm in love.
I thought I'd introduce myself, the new, proud, owner of "Boo" my cream and maroon 2007 Wide Glide.
I've been riding since 1986, briefly on Hondas and, for the last 16 years, on BMW K bikes. I tried some Harleys at Americade in the early '90s and came away unimpressed - the bikes I tried were slow, asthmatic and hard to handle.
As I've gotten older, and my body has gotten more cranky, I've been riding less and less. Recently, a couple of hours on either of my beloved BMWs has meant gritted teeth, a sore butt and a sore back.
Since both other the other guys at work ride HDs, I drifted into the showroom one day ...
I complained to the salesman about my sore butt and back. He asked me if I cared what the bike looked like. I said, no, I'm not that familiar with HD products anyway. He told me that if I would let him pick the model, he'd get me a pain free ride. Period. He was sure of it.
He was right, and I LOVE this bike!
Who'd a thunk it? Forward pegs and mini ape hangers = NO butt pain and NO back pain. I haven't had a cramp in my hip since I bought this bike!!!
I think she's, by far, the most beautiful bike I've ever ridden, let alone owned! The 95cid engine has plenty of power. The stock pipes sound just fine. With her raked front end, she loves to turn - I'm scraping bootheels regularly. She makes good vibes - just a mild pulsing and no buzz. My partner LOVES to ride on the back with me - she's ecstatic. What else could a guy ask??
My only complaint is that the airstream wants my knees to be about 8' apart. I have to learn to relax my legs and let it happen!
For the first time in decades, I don't own a BMW!
In fact, I've been so happy with Boo that I bought my partner a Buell Blast to learn on. She's still shaky on it, but it's a HD product and she LOVES it. I'd love it too if my legs were 6" shorter, but that's another story. Now, she needs to come up with a name.
The Harley community has been incredible. The dealer ... and the riders ... make even the BMW fraternity pale in comparison.
To HD, and to the Maine HD community, thank you for making me feel so welcome.
