Newbie in De
Just joined and started shopping for my first bike, taking the class in mid June, looking at a Sportster 1200.
Any advice is welcome and I apologize now for all the dumb question I will ask.
Thanks[sm=hiya.gif][sm=hiya.gif]

RE: Newbie in De
Welcome from Smyrna!
I definitely suggest taking the MSF class prior to your purchase.
I would also make the suggestion that after taking the class that you test ride
a few bikes prior to deciding.
I did niether and will regret the the decision not to, for a long time.
I have to ask, why do you want the Sportster?
I can only tell you that, and you're likely to hear this a LOT, you will outgrow the Sporty in short order.
Most folks do, I did and couldn't get rid of the bike.
I ended up taking a pretty good beating on the trade.
However, that being said I will never regret trading up to the FXD.
Everything about it is better, ride, comfort (Both, both 2 up and single)
suspension, 96 CI 6 speed tranny, wider tires.
It was less than 3k more than the Sporty and worth every penny.
I can go on if you like.
But seriously, it's everything the Sportster is, just on steroids.
The other suggestion I would make deals with Mikes. Offer them 2K less that sticker.
Demand it even, and walk out if they won't give it to you.
Throw "Seaford' Hannums" and Annapolis" at them, they'll give.
Better yet,
Take a ride to Florida, I just came back last month and bikes were anywhere from 4-6k cheaper.
If/when I decide to trade up again, there's no question where I'll be shopping.
