New Harley Owner from NC
Just bought our first Harley about 3 months ago. It is a 2004 Ultra Classic which we purchased with only 1325 miles on it in like-new condition (with over a year of extended warranty.) Our previous bike was a 2005 Kawasaki Vulcan 1600 Nomad which was a great bike, but just not a Harley.
I'm still working on getting the Ultra like I want it but we love the bike. The biggest thing right now is the mufflers. I like to hear the bike and like a good deep rumble. However, the SE slip-ons that are on the bike are a little loud and metallic sounding. They sound great around town or on short trips but grate on the nerves pretty badly on an extended trip.Since we like to tour this is a problem. I've read a lot of good things about the Rush slip-ons but the service manager at my local Harley shop told me they would sound about the same as the SEs, even with the smaller baffles.
I had a set of Cobra billet tipped mufflers on the Nomad which were perfect but the billet tip smoked up to easily so I'm inclined not to go with them on the Ultra.
Anyway, looks like quite a bit of good information on this forum so I'm looking forward to getting involved.

[sm=welcomesign.gif] Welcome from a Virginian! I think you'll find every possible pipe/muffler combination discussed somewhere here on HDF. As with most HD mods, it's all a matter of taste and preference. Hope your choice turns out to be what you're looking for.
There are quite a few from NC on HDF - hook up and enjoy!
