Default XL883R Sportster

I am breaking in the 2006 XL883R. Mirage Orange/Black with forward controls. I have 200 miles on it. Can anyone help me on how I should be breaking the bike in? I always thought you should break it in as how you be riding it. Can I go faster than 55? I Can't Ride 55! I have the Screaming Eagle Stage 1 Kit. I keep hearing I should of waited until after break in before I modifided the bike.

Hi Robert,
I'm new here too. Welcome aboard as they say in the Navy. When I bought my Harley (XL 1200C) the dealer said to take it easy for the first 400 miles. They wanted the rpm below 3000 and the top speed below 55. I kept mine below 50 for the first 400 miles. After that you can let it rip. I wouldn't worry about the stage-1 when new. My dealer sells a lot of bikes with the stage-1 already installed. Don't forget to review your owners manual carefully. It has lots of good advice.

Welcome, I was told keep under 50 mph for first 500 miles and no constant speed, then under 65mph next 500 miles and change the oil and enjoy. Tim

Welcome!! Glad you found the forum. Congrats on the new scoot! They've hit you with the conventional wisdom, and I'm pretty sure that's what you'll find in the manual. Good luck and enjoy the ride.
