Welcome Bob. You should follow the recommended break in as stated in your manual. Air cooled motors are different than water cooled. You need to make sure your rings seat properly and that all the metal to metal parts break in correctly. After you hit around 500 miles you can crack it a little bit more. The most critical time is the first 100 miles.

Could not agree more with the posts that tell you to read the MOCO manual. You will have a lot more fun, cause it lets you ride a little faster than what you have been told...and I think the guys (and gals) who wrote the book should know ! Ride smart and ride safe. Enjoy and welcome to the forum !

Welcome from Rhode Island. When I bought new I was advised to keep it around 50 MPH for the first 50 miles, but fluctuate the speeds. I took it easy for about 400 miles, but was riding at highway speeds.
