Welcome from the stormy Oregon coast. I am new to riding too, 18 months. Ask your local HD dealer about riding classes. I bought my bike and it sat in the garage for two months until I get into a class. The classes are geared to the new riding assuming that you have never ridden before. When you have completed the course they give you a certificate to take the DMV and get your MC endorsement. The only way to go as far as I am concerned.

Look before you buy, check out everything and make sure that YOU are happy with what you buy. As far as other advice, there is plenty of it here and it's all good. Don't be afraid to ask. WELCOME!
