Obviously you have a dead short somewhere. Probably a wire worn through and grounding out - somewhere. No, I can't be more specific, you'll have to start at the switch and troubleshoot the wiring all the way to the starter. If you find nothing then start from the fuse and check all the way back to the switch. Electrical problems always suck and are the most tedious because you can't fool electricity. One thing I would NOT have done in the face of an electrical issue would be to start changing components that involved wiring like handlebars and starters before I fixed the initial problem.

Hey Man:
Made the decision to change them anyway before the issue came up. I do agree with you, though. Fix it before changing out parts. We called that shotgunning the system back in my avionic tech days. Ya just can't get around using trouble shooting skills.
