RE: ahoma
Welcome to the forum, nice road story. Been on the trip back & forth to Monterey, CA many times. Mostly on I40, only a couple times on I10. Had to laugh when you mentioned Blythe - brings back some horrendus memories. One in particular follows:
I almost stayed in Blythe one time for one night - after checking-in & paying for a room at an unnamed motel, droveup and parked at the front door ofthe room. Unloaded a couple things on my way to theroom door. Opened the front door, walked-in and looked around. After seeing the room, even as dog tired as I was at about 3am - headed back to the office, demanded my money back, packed-up, and got back on the road. At about 4:30 am, after nearly crashing bacause I was so tired, I finally pulled over and and slepttill sunrise just off the side of the highway nearPasedena before continuing on that next day into central CA. Moral of the story - Ever since, I plan trips around that sewer hole. I agree with your assessment of BLIGHT (sp intentionally).
